It started with a little boy named Zachariah who left our world when he was only four-years old. Zachariah's family came to understand what it was like to be labeled as the family with the sick/disabled child. No one meant any harm by this. It just that no one had shared with them a better more loving way.
When Zachariah left to go home to our Lord his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Glover became passionate about doing something to help others understand how to minister to the disabled and their families especially within our churches. And guys--they went BIG, they went NATIONALLY. We love it when people want to truly make a change.
The goal of P.U.R.E ministries is to help churches minister to those families of the disabled whether it is physical, psychological or learning disabilities. Their purpose is to create a knowledge base within the church that allows the young people to reach out to those with disabilities and treat them as we ourselves want to be treated.
You know what I mean, when you are in church and you see the little boy with autism with his parents. His family wants you to see them Mom, Dad and Adam--not the family who has a boy with Autism--"NO LABELS"! Not hard right? We just hadn't thought of it in that way or from their perspective.
One in five people have a disability, 25% to 30% of people have someone in their immediate family with some sort of disability. Someone with a disability has affected most of us, directly or indirectly. So, you see it is a huge opportunity for awareness for all of us. Jesus always wanted to be with the sick and those who were in need knew they were full of His grace. Just imagine the grace we will help others feel when we take the time to get to know them for who they are and not for their “label”.
Please check out www.pureministry.com and let your minister and youth pastor know about this wonderful ministry. The Glover’s will talk to anyone and I do mean anyone. It can be one person or 4,000 people. These wonderful grandparents want to change our world.
Hey, I hope you guys look good in your shirts today. Take some pic's and send them in to www.wearitwedneday.com.
